Every few years, the world’s longest flight changes from one route to another. Over the past three years, the title has moved to at least three different routes. As airlines compete for the bragging rights and fuel becomes cheaper and more efficient, airlines continue to leapfrog one another, launching a new-longest route quarterly. Whether you are looking to avoid excessively long flights or hoping to get the most mileage out of your vacation, here are the top longest world flights.

#4. Qantas; DFW-SYD; 8,578 miles; 17h 10m; Boeing 787-9/Airbus A350

Back in 2014, when this flight was launched, it was the top record holder. The jumbo Airbus A350 seats 484 passengers within four classes of service. First class and business class passengers receive full treatment, including gourmet dining and lie-flat beds. Coach seats feature soft cushioning and lumbar support, although the seats are smaller. This flight also allows you to preselect your flight meals using the airline’s website.

#3. United; LAX-SIN; 8,770 miles; 17h 55m; Boeing 787-9

Launched in October 2017, this ultra-long-haul route replaces the need for passengers to connect via Tokyo or Hong Kong. Featuring power outlets, USB ports in all seats and Wifi, this plane works to keep passengers content even after in-flight entertainment has been exhausted. This airline is working on a new premium economy cabin, as well as a refreshed premium cabin called Polaris.

#2. Emirates; AKL-DXB, 8,824 miles; 17h 15m; Airbus A380

This once longest flight now has more to offer. Switching from a Boeing 777-200LR to an Airbus A380, this flight can now carry more passengers while offering numerous amenities. In first class and business cabins, this airline offers the best customer service and luxurious amenities that most other airlines can’t duplicate. Even coach passengers are pampered. Each receives an amenity kit that includes socks, earplugs, eyeshade, and a toothbrush. Each seat offers power outlets to recharge your laptop, phone, and tablet, as well as a system that provides more consumer content. To top it off, Emirates is one of the only airlines to offer free WiFi.

#1. Qatar; AKL-DOH; 9,032 miles; 17h 30m; Boeing 777-200LR

Since February 2017, this airline uses the Boeing 777-200LR, the longest-range modern jet, to take passengers over 9,000 miles. From first-class private suites to cabin amenity kits, Qatar works to offer luxurious service. Each seat features a power plug to keep devices charged throughout the flight, and the in-flight entertainment provides extensive movies, games, and music to keep you busy.

#Upcoming. Qatar; NYC-SIN; 10,000 miles; 19h;

October 11, 2018, Qatar is launching a new route that is set to take the title as the world’s longest flight. This non-stop route will depart once-daily, span over 10,000 miles and take just under 19 hours to complete. However, it is important to note that this flight will only offer business and premium economy.
